Car travel can be one of the biggest challenges for many Romanian and overseas rescue dogs…
But contrary to popular belief, car travel difficulties aren't always rooted in fear and simply pairing food treat with cars and getting into cars does not always resolve the problem.
Dogs (and in particular our overseas rescue dogs) can struggle with cars and car travel for one reason, or a combination of several different factors.
For example:
👉 Fear or anxiety
👉 Motion sickness
👉 Vestibular sensitivity
👉 Sensory sensitivities
👉 Discomfort or pain
👉 Frustration
👉 Confinement
👉 Lack of positive associations or previously acquired negative associations (or trauma)
Understanding the 'possible' reasons behind your dog's behaviour is a crucial first step towards helping them.
In this practical, compassionate workshop, we'll explore:
✅ The possible reasons your Romanian or overseas rescue dog may be struggling with car travel.
✅ How to identify what may be contributing to your own dog's experience.
✅ Various ways to approach acclimation to cars and car travel based on your dog's needs & preferences
✅ How to recognise what the right pace is for your dog (critical factor in success)
✅ Practical strategies to help make journeys less stressful for both you and your dog.
✅ Common mistakes that can unintentionally make acclimation to car travel more difficult.
✅ How to build ongoing confidence and positive associations
Whether your dog refuses to get in the car, becomes distressed during journeys, paces, pants, drools, vocalises, or struggles to settle, this workshop will help you better understand what's happening and give you practical ideas you can start applying straight away.
As always, the focus isn't on quick fixes - it's about understanding your individual dog and building confidence, comfort and positive experiences over time.
